US Patent: 6,727,830 The Double Click by Micro$haft
United States Patent: 6,727,830
So this is the direction of US business. Patent the crap out of everything in order to control the market. Business in America is turning into one big lawsuit. If you can't beat your competition through fair business practices, just sue them.
So much for the American Dream. There are many unfortunate people that think they (M$) earned it. However, when Micro$oft came into the game the implications of an Operating System was unknown to the Government, the People and even those people "in the know".
The situation is similar to the events in the former USSR with Perostroika and Glasnost. Once the USSR failed and capitalism entered their virgin markets crime rocketed to levels not even seen in the US because there was no central group to regulate business. So literal "robber barons" sprung up buying everything in site. Now that governments have been re-established they have a serious problem. Many of the "barons" have more control over the economy than they do.
Now compare that to the Micro$oft situation. One company with a plan to enter a yet untapped market, muscles their technology into the forfront. Not because their product is a good solution, but because they are the only ones on the market with with this concept. At this point there are no laws concerning "intellectual rights". The legal lines of computer software technology have barely been drawn because only government and businesses big enough to afford the technology had it. So, infringment was a non-issue, there was no commercial competition. They could force companies like Dell and Packard Bell to sign an exclusive relationship contract because at the time there was noone else. Now they own the market (read monopoly). And Yes, they do... and they know it. And by owning a market that affect 99% of the world business... they own you. Yes... yes they do. :)
